Hayat & Sarwar (Advocates, Corporate & Legal Consultants) is a legal enterprise founded in 2020 by Barrister Abbas Hayat and Mr. Umair Sarwar. The mission is to provide tailored legal consultation services that align precisely with the unique needs of each client, whether they require guidance on personal or corporate matters. Conveniently located in Lahore, with a well-connected liaison office in Islamabad, it is strategically positioned to serve clients across Pakistan. Barrister Abbas Hayat is a partner at the firm. He has his LLB (Hons) from City, University of London (now known as City St George’s, University of London). Later on, he was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, and then he completed his Master of Law (LLM) with a specialization in Advanced Advocacy Skills from City, University of London (now known as City St George’s, University of London). He is an Advocate of the High Court and subordinate courts of Pakistan with six years of experience. He has served as the secretary of the Legal Colloquium Committee at the Lahore High Court Bar Association.
After completion of his studies, he joined Awan Ali, where he assisted senior advocates primarily on transactional and litigation work. From there, he relocated as an associate at Qayyum & Associates in Lahore, Pakistan, and gained rich court experience by litigating cases covering corporate, civil, banking, contract, and family litigation under the mentorship of Justice (R) Malik Muhammad Qayyum and Barrister Mohammad Ahmad Qayyum.
Currently, Mr. Hayat is also a legal advisor to different government entities, which include the Walton Cantonment Board, Lahore Cantonment Board, and legal consultant to Punjab Food Authority. Mr. Hayat, on a routine basis, provides legal services regularly to various banks, public entities, and corporate entities. His main areas of practice are human rights, civil, criminal, banking, company, family, arbitration, constitutional, intellectual property and tax laws. He also frequently writes articles on various legal subjects, which are published in the News and the Daily Times.
Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Umair is an advocate in the High Court with more than seven years of experience in civil, commercial, revenue, and banking matters. He has multiple reported judgments in leading constitutional cases.
He started his career working with HAF, dealing primarily with banking matters. He has also worked with Ali Ahmad Awan & Associates, where he dealt with sales tax litigation for sugar mills. Before joining, Hayat & Sarwar as partners, he was working as the head of civil litigation at Qayyum & Associates.
Noor has done her LLB Hons from Queen Mary University of London, UK, and then went on to complete her LLM & Bar from the City University of London, UK. She has extensive experience handling contentious and non-contentious matters. Prior to joining H&S, Noor worked at Asma Hamid Associates, Lahore. Her practice is primarily comprised of tax, corporate, constitutional, criminal, and civil law. Before moving to Lahore, Noor worked at a leading chamber in Karachi, appearing before multiple forums situated in Karachi and other cities of the province of Sindh in relation to civil, criminal, family, and constitutional matters. She possesses a special interest in human rights and international law.
Noor’s work encompasses research, drafting, litigation, and legal advisory on criminal (including bail), family (involving custody of children, divorce/khula and declaration of inheritance, domestic violence), human rights, tax, civil, and corporate matters.
Prior to coming to Pakistan, Noor was selected by Queen Mary University, UK, to work with a team of lawyers at the Legal Advice Center, which provided free legal advice to the public on property and land matters. Noor has also temporarily worked part-time at Times PBS in London, headquartered in Dubai, UAE. The work involved assisting senior barristers and solicitors with appeals, research, and correspondence with the Home Office on cases involving victims of terrorism, asylum seekers, and refugees. Noor is also a member of the All Pakistan Women’s Association and the Young Legal Aid Lawyers (UK).
